Recently completed project: Mattabassett Water Pollution Control Facility

1/20/2016

NIC Systems recently completed its role in the $100 million water pollution control facility upgrade at the Mattabassett District in Cromwell, Connecticut.  The three year construction project was undertaken to increase plant capacity, remove nitrogen and adhere to new water quality standards implemented for Long Island Sound.  Working with Wright-Pierce engineers and CH Nickerson & Co. general contractors, the project won the Associated General Contractors of CT 2016 Build Connecticut Award for Large Renovation project, as well as “Best Project” by Engineering News Record New England for 2015.  For our role as a subcontractor, NIC fabricated 100 new control panels, modernized the plant SCADA system which had been originally implemented in 1992, and provided over 225 instruments to monitor new and existing processes and equipment.

The Mattabassett District serves 170,000 ratepayers in New Britain, Cromwell, and Berlin.  With the completion of the upgrade, Middletown’s waste water will be added to the plant, which can process in excess of 35 million gallons of sewage per day.
